Jaguar Crystal, Carved Quartz Crystal Puma for Plant Medicine Altar, Peruvian Shamanism, Rare Find, Made In Peru (J2)
Here is a magnificent puma crystal, carved from a solid quartz crystal point in peru's sacred valley. It is part of a truly special collection of carved crystal sculptures we recently acquired from our friends in pisac, peru. The pieces in this collection are truly museum-grade quality, carved by master artisans who based many of the designs on sacred ceremonial artifacts that have actually been found in incan tombs. These pieces of art and sculpture are some of the finest representations of peruvian mythology and shamanism we have ever seen. Measurements: 5.75" t x 2.25" w x 2.5 d. Weight: 734g (1.6 pounds). This is a spectacular work of art, so substantial in weight and presence, with an absolutely ferocious countenance this carving represents an andean puma, as opposed to a jaguar, as the puma is more native to the mountains where this is from (whereas the jaguar is more native to the jungle). The puma is a very powerful figure in incan mythology as well as peruvian shamanism.
This figure was carved in the base of a large, natural quartz crystal point, native to the area. It is a truly special and one-of-a-kind piece of art. Please note there is a very minor chip to one of the main facets (see photo 8).
The puma is a symbol of strength, wisdom and intelligence. It represents the kay pacha', the quechua word that means the world of the living'. Its characteristics are patience and strength. The andean puma is the subspecies of the puma that inhabits the territories of south america.
For the incas it was a divine animal that represented the power of the world. It is believed that cusco, the capital of the empire of the incas, has the shape of a puma.
The head of this animal is found in the fabulous fortress of sacsayhuaman. The line is in the temple of coricancha. This item is made of quartz.
